Toronto-based singer-songwriter Katie Dauson is back with her latest release, ‘Get Ready’, a punchy, feel-good rock and roll track powered by blues and rockabilly influences. Known for her genre-blurring sound, Dauson effortlessly blends rock and roll, surf rock, rockabilly, folk, and bluegrass—creating music that feels timeless while remaining unmistakably her own.
“I was listening to a lot of ’70s rock and roll and rockabilly when I wrote this song,” Dauson explains. “At first, there was no harmonica, but after hearing Bob Seger’s Katmandu and those iconic harmonica solos, I knew I had to add them—and play them myself.” The result is a track bursting with energy, driven by lively vocals, rhythmic guitar, and soaring harmonica lines. Beneath the upbeat surface, the song reflects on self-doubt as a motivator, confronting critics while encouraging them to rise to the challenge too.
Lyrically, ‘Get Ready’ balances introspection with confidence. While it touches on insecurity and resilience, Dauson keeps the tone positive and uplifting, making it the kind of song that invites listeners to move, sing along, and feel empowered.
Drawing from blues harmonica greats Junior Wells and James Cotton, Dauson blends their raw, soulful influence with the swagger of classic ’70s rock and rockabilly. She plays rhythm guitar on her 2014 left-handed Gretsch Duo Jet, channeling George Harrison and The Beatles, while her vocals carry the grit and attitude of icons like Bob Seger and Wanda Jackson.
Produced and engineered by James Nickle, ‘Get Ready’ showcases Dauson’s hands-on artistry, featuring her own rhythm guitar and harmonica solos. It’s a confident reminder of her versatility, passion, and unmistakable musical identity.
