Early next week, Lagos will become a creative meeting point for French and Nigerian songwriters coming together for a new cross-cultural collaboration. The writers will gather under the guidance of Mavin Records, the French collecting society Sacem, and the French Embassy in Nigeria for the first edition of the Afrocroiser writing camp.

Running from January 18 to January 25, the seven-day camp will take place at Mavin’s studios and bring together a group of experienced creatives with impressive résumés. Participants include songwriters who have worked with major artists such as Aya Nakamura, Jason Derulo, Lil Baby, Rema, Ayra Starr, and Davido, among others.

Throughout the week, the focus will be on collaboration, creative exchange, and exploring new musical ideas that blend different backgrounds and working styles. By the end of the camp, completed songs will be pitched to Mavin Records for its roster of artists, as well as to performers in France, giving the music a chance to travel beyond borders.

For Mavin, the initiative goes deeper than simply creating songs. Senior publishing and licensing manager Kizito Ahams explained that Afrocroiser is equally about learning from one another and understanding how creativity functions across different markets. The camp aims to encourage fair collaboration, shared knowledge, and a better understanding of how value is created and distributed internationally.

As African music continues to gain global momentum, projects like Afrocroiser highlight the importance of meaningful partnerships that connect cultures, strengthen creative communities, and open new pathways for artists on both sides.
