American rapper Megan Thee Stallion has been granted a five-year restraining order against Canadian artist Tory Lanez, who is currently serving a ten-year prison sentence for assaulting her in 2020.
The decision follows allegations from Megan’s legal team about Lanez’s continued harassment from behind bars.
In an emotional video statement to a Los Angeles courtroom, Megan detailed the lasting impact of the attack, during which Lanez fired five shots at her, wounding both feet. She also described the additional distress caused by social media harassment allegedly fueled by Lanez.
“I haven’t been at peace since I was shot. I’m just trying to be un-harassed—not only by the person who shot me but also by the people he’s paying to continue harassing me,” Megan said tearfully.
Expressing concern for her future safety, she added, “I feel like when he gets out of jail, it’s going to be worse. Maybe he’ll shoot me again, and maybe this time, I won’t make it.”
The presiding judge, Richard Bloom, emphasized the lasting effects of the assault, stating, “With a violent act like that, there’s a ripple effect that continues on. Ms. Pete’s testimony is that the ripple effect has been significant.”
Under the order, Lanez must stay at least 100 yards away from Megan and is prohibited from any form of harassment, intimidation, or threats until at least January 9, 2030.
