It’s funny but yes I will always have packed suitcase in my hallway. Always ready to leave. It probably gives me that feeling of freedom. As an artist it’s crucial to feel free, not tied down.
This collaboration was recorded remotely across different countries, yet the finished song feels cohesive and immediate. How did working across borders and relying on modern technology influence the creative process, and did the distance create any unexpected opportunities?
It’s wonderful today that with technology one can record in one’s home studio and send your vocals around the world. Just finished my country album and it’s been amazing to have country musicians from Nashville recording on my vocals .
You are known for your versatility as a singer-songwriter and performer. What did this particular collaboration bring out of you vocally or creatively that may not have appeared in your previous work?
It’s always so much fun collaborating with amazing StoneBridge! I feel so proud of all our songs. Wonderful to find such a talented producer to collaborate with, feel very blessed!
Improvisation is described as an important part of your creative approach. When you are improvising, how do you recognise that a spontaneous vocal idea or musical moment is worth keeping and developing into part of the finished song?
When the melody gets stuck in my mind, it feels like a hook.
The track has been described as an infectious, timeless earworm. What do you think makes a song stay with people long after they have heard it, and was creating that kind of lasting connection something you consciously considered while making “One Eye On The Road”?
I try to write lyrics that has a a meaning not just “baby baby I love you”, hopefully people can connect with my songs.
The title suggests someone who is constantly looking ahead to the next destination while still keeping one foot in the present. How much does travel, change, and the excitement of not knowing exactly where life will take you influence your songwriting and artistic identity?
I believe it’s important to travel, see the world, feel different cultures, moods, nature, energies, and it for sure helps my creativity.
Also to be open to everything, I don’t think I’ve ever said no to any invitation except if I’ve already thanked yes to something else.
You have experienced international chart success across your career. How has your understanding of an international audience changed over time, and do you approach songwriting differently when you know a song could potentially connect with listeners from very different cultures?
Haven’t really thought of that, kind of write from my inner place at that moment of time. Like one of my songs LA came from a big heartbreak.
The song is already being discussed as a potential Grammy contender. Beyond awards and industry recognition, what would make you personally consider “One Eye On The Road” a successful release?
If one reach a wide audience which we have. It got picked up by a video creator and it’s been watched by 4,7 million people already.
Looking at your wider journey as an artist, actress, and activist, how do these different parts of your creative identity influence one another, and do you see them as separate careers or different expressions of the same person?
No they are all my passions. To raise awareness through my art if it’s through music, acting, producing, writing is an enormous richness and feels so worth all the work.
As K-Syran continues to evolve, what kind of artistic adventure are you hoping to take next? Are there new sounds, collaborations, stories, or creative directions that you feel particularly excited to explore?
Yes, working on a super exciting project now where music, film, theatre all comes together, so very, very excited! Life is a wonderful journey and I feel blessed to be alive.
