Zukrassverliebt on ‘Sensory Overload,’ Digital Distractions, and Finding Balance in a Connected World

zukrassverliebt explores the pressures of modern life in “Sensory Overload,” an energetic dance-pop track about feeling overwhelmed by digital media, constant notifications, and the endless stream of information competing for our attention. Behind its catchy hooks and driving beats, the song raises an important question: how do we regain control of our attention when the world never seems to slow down?

The project grew out of a creative partnership between Manu and his father, who started producing music together during the COVID-19 pandemic while Manu was preparing for his final school exams. What began as a way to balance academic pressure developed into a shared musical journey, bringing together their different strengths and a common interest in creating music with both energy and meaning.

On “Sensory Overload,” the repeated phrase “Out of control” captures the feeling of being caught in a cycle of constant stimulation, even when we recognise that we need a break. Influenced by artists such as The Weeknd, The Neighbourhood, and The 1975, zukrassverliebt combines memorable melodies with darker, introspective themes, creating music that invites listeners to dance while giving them something to think about.

In this interview with Boostrin, Manu discusses the inspiration behind “Sensory Overload,” the impact of digital distractions on everyday life, his creative partnership with his father, and his plans to keep exploring the relationship between technology, human connection, and personal growth through music.

First of all, could you tell us about yourself and how you first got into music? What inspired you to begin creating songs, and how has your personal journey shaped the sound and message of zukrassverliebt?

Music has always been a way for me to express feelings, thoughts, and experiences that are sometimes difficult to put into words. During the challenging time of the COVID pandemic, my father and I decided to set up our own studio and started producing songs together. For me, it was a wonderful way to balance the stress of preparing for my final school exams and to have something creative to focus on. Over time, making music together brought us even closer as a team, both musically and personally. The result of that journey is zukrassverliebt.

What I love most about creating music is the opportunity to turn personal experiences and emotions into something other people can relate to. With zukrassverliebt, I want to combine modern, energetic sounds with honest emotions and meaningful ideas. For me, music should do more than entertain. It can motivate people, bring them together, and remind them that they are not alone in what they feel.

“Sensory Overload” explores the feeling of being constantly surrounded by digital media, information, and competing impressions. What inspired you to focus on this subject, and was there a particular experience that made you want to turn it into a song?

I think most of us know the feeling of being overwhelmed by everything happening around us. We check our phones, read messages, scroll through social media, and constantly take in new information. Even when we have a moment to ourselves, our minds often keep going.

I found this feeling interesting because it has become such a normal part of everyday life that we sometimes barely notice it anymore. I wanted to capture that experience in a song and explore what happens when all these impressions become too much. “Sensory Overload” is about that moment when you realise you are losing control and need to find your way back to yourself. It is not necessarily about one specific experience, but rather about a feeling I think many people can recognise in their own lives.

The track uses driving beats, catchy repetitions, and an intense atmosphere to reflect overstimulation. How did you approach the production to make listeners feel the energy and pressure of the subject, and how did you decide when the intensity was just right?

My father and I work very closely together when producing our songs, and the process is always very creative and intensive. My father usually starts by composing ideas on the guitar, while I, Manu, take care of the production and all the technical aspects in the DAW. From there, we work together to develop melodies, experiment with different sounds, and figure out how to bring our ideas to life.

We often find that our strengths complement each other, and some of our best ideas emerge when we build on each other’s suggestions. With “Sensory Overload,” it was important that the production reflected the feeling behind the lyrics. We wanted an energetic dance-pop track with driving beats and a hook that stays in your head.

The repetition of “Out of control” is particularly important because it reflects the way certain thoughts can keep coming back when your mind is overwhelmed. At the same time, it makes the song memorable and gives it an almost hypnotic quality. We wanted to find the right balance between making people want to dance and creating an atmosphere that communicates the pressure described in the lyrics.

We live in a world where people can access news, entertainment, messages, and social media at almost any moment. What do you think this constant stream of information is doing to our ability to focus, connect with others, and find peace in everyday life?

I think we are becoming used to being distracted all the time. There is always something new to see, read, or react to, and that can make it difficult to focus on one thing or simply enjoy the moment we are in.
I also think it can affect our relationships. We can be physically together with someone while mentally being somewhere else, looking at a screen or thinking about the next thing we need to do. Of course, digital media also brings people together and offers many positive opportunities. The challenge is finding a healthy balance and learning when to switch off.

With artificial intelligence becoming increasingly present in our everyday lives, I think this question of balance and control is becoming even more relevant. Technology can help us in many ways, but we also need to think about how we use it and how much space we allow it to take up in our lives. Sometimes, we need to give ourselves permission to do nothing and just be present.

Dance-pop often encourages people to move, let go, and enjoy the moment, while “Sensory Overload” addresses a feeling that can become exhausting. How did you balance the track’s energetic, danceable sound with the more serious subject behind it?

I actually think that contrast is one of the most interesting things about the song. The subject is quite serious, but I didn’t want the music to feel heavy or depressing. I wanted to create something energetic, danceable, and catchy that could communicate the feeling without losing its sense of fun.

The repetitive hook also plays an important role here. It makes the song easy to remember, but it also reflects the constant stream of thoughts and impressions that the lyrics describe. The line “Out of control” becomes almost impossible to ignore, just as the things competing for our attention in everyday life can be.
For me, the result is a song that works on two levels: you can dance to it and enjoy the energy, but you can also connect with the message behind it. I like the idea that a song can make you move while giving you something to think about at the same time.

Your musical identity is described through indie and pop-rock that moves people. Which artists, musical experiences, or personal influences have helped shape your sound, and how do you bring those influences together when creating something new?

My musical taste is quite open, and I enjoy exploring different sounds and styles. I’m drawn to music that combines strong melodies, distinctive atmospheres, and emotions that feel genuine. Artists such as The Weeknd, The Neighbourhood, and The 1975 are important references to me because they create recognisable sonic worlds and combine catchy music with darker or more introspective elements.

I find it exciting how different musical styles can influence each other. A song can have an energetic pop production while still carrying a certain darkness or emotional depth. That’s something I enjoy exploring in my own music.

With zukrassverliebt, I want to take inspiration from different musical directions while developing a sound and identity of my own. I don’t want to be limited to one genre. What matters most to me is that a song has its own character, a strong melody, and something meaningful to communicate.

Your wider vision focuses on bringing more creativity, compassion, and motivation into people’s lives. What do these values mean to you personally, and how do you hope they come through in your music beyond the lyrics and sound?

Creativity means being open to new ideas and looking at the world from different perspectives. Compassion means trying to understand other people instead of judging them too quickly. And motivation is about finding the strength to keep going, even when things are difficult.

These values are important to me because I believe we could all benefit from a little more understanding and positivity in everyday life. Music is a great way to communicate these ideas without having to explain everything directly. Sometimes, a melody, a certain atmosphere, or a single line can create a feeling that stays with someone long after the song has ended.

I don’t want every song to tell people what to think or how to live. Instead, I hope my music gives them a feeling, an idea, or a moment of connection that they can take with them.

When writing about a common experience such as digital overstimulation, how do you make sure the song reflects your own perspective rather than simply describing something many people already recognise? Is there a personal feeling or observation you wanted listeners to discover beneath the surface of “Sensory Overload”?

For me, the key is to focus on the emotional experience rather than simply describing the problem. Most people understand what digital overstimulation is, but the way it affects us internally can be very different.
With “Sensory Overload,” I wanted to explore the feeling of knowing that something is becoming too much while still finding yourself caught up in it. The repeated line “Out of control” expresses that conflict. It is about recognising that you are losing control, but not necessarily knowing how to stop it.

I think that feeling can apply to many aspects of modern life, not just our relationship with technology. It can be about expectations, pressure, or the difficulty of finding a moment of peace when there is always something demanding your attention. Beneath the energetic sound, there is a simple question: how do we regain control of our own attention and make space for ourselves in a world that constantly wants something from us?

Music can sometimes help people process feelings they struggle to explain in everyday conversation. What role do you think music can play in helping listeners understand their emotions, especially in a world that rarely gives people enough time to slow down and reflect?

I think music can create a space where people can feel something without having to explain it immediately. Sometimes, a melody or a lyric expresses an emotion that you have been carrying around without really understanding it yourself.

Music can also give us permission to acknowledge feelings that we might otherwise ignore. In a world where everything moves so quickly, listening to a song can be a small moment to reconnect with yourself. And sometimes, simply realising that someone else has experienced something similar can make a big difference.

That connection is one of the things I love most about music. You don’t need to know someone personally or share the same experiences to understand what they are expressing. A song can connect people through emotions, even when words alone might not be enough.

Looking ahead, what would you like to explore next as zukrassverliebt? Are there other aspects of modern life, human connection, or personal growth that you hope to address through future releases, and what do you ultimately want listeners to take away from your music?

I want to continue exploring different sounds, emotions, and aspects of modern life. Technology, human connection, personal growth, and the way we deal with the world around us are all subjects that offer a lot of inspiration.

I’m interested in the contradictions of everyday life: how we can feel connected and lonely at the same time, how technology can make things easier but also more complicated, and how we try to find balance in a world that never seems to slow down. These are themes that I think will remain relevant and that can be explored from many different perspectives.

Musically, I want to keep experimenting and creating songs that are energetic, memorable, and emotionally meaningful. Working together with my father is also an important part of that journey, and I’m excited to see where our creative process takes us next.

Ultimately, I hope people can enjoy my music, recognize something of themselves in it, and maybe feel a little more motivated, understood, or connected after listening. If a song makes someone dance, think, or simply feel a little less alone, then it has achieved something meaningful to me.
